چکیده

Abstract The significance of the phonological neighborhood on lexical processing has been documented by decades studies in field, and it become clear that connectivity mental lexicon is a crucial facilitator for word learning both production perception domains. What remained underrepresented literature to date question how or phonetic changes are accommodated neighborhoods, put differently, what implications language change. present study investigates two voice onset time ( VOT ) Austrian German plosives have appeared certain types neighborhoods. Inferences about which characteristics most conducive sound change drawn. Results vary fortis/lenis articulation, with lenis shortening fortis lengthening being linked different neighborhoods generations speakers.

Labov, Sound Change, and Phonological Theory

Labov begins his landmark Principles of Linguistic Change with a volume on internal factors governing sound change (Labov 1994) that focuses on the CONSTRAINTS PROBLEM (Weinreich, Labov, and Herzog 1968): what changes are possible for a language in a given state? On the basis of typological data on sound changes and his research on ongoing change in English, he puts forward a set of principled ...

Developmental perspectives on phonological typology and sound change

The relationship between first language acquisition and phonologization lies at the crossroads of developmental psychology and historical phonology—disciplines not often considered in the same breath when addressing the nature of sound patterns and change. Despite these traditional boundaries I believe that this combined research program can make significant contributions to a more nuanced unde...

Phonological complexity and language learnability.

PURPOSE To extend formal models of language learnability to applications in clinical treatment of children with functional phonological delays. METHOD The focus of the narrative review is on phonological complexity. This follows from learnability theory, whereby complexity in the linguistic input to children has been shown to trigger language learning. Drawing from the literature, phonologica...

Treatment of sound errors in aphasia and apraxia of speech: Effects of phonological complexity.

BACKGROUND: Recent research suggests that the complexity of treatment stimuli influences the effectiveness of treatment. However, no studies have examined the role of complexity on sound production treatment in adult individuals with sound production impairments. AIMS: This study examines effects of syllable complexity on treatment outcome in two patients with acquired sound production problem...

ON FUZZY NEIGHBORHOOD BASED CLUSTERING ALGORITHM WITH LOW COMPLEXITY

The main purpose of this paper is to achieve improvement in thespeed of Fuzzy Joint Points (FJP) algorithm. Since FJP approach is a basisfor fuzzy neighborhood based clustering algorithms such as Noise-Robust FJP(NRFJP) and Fuzzy Neighborhood DBSCAN (FN-DBSCAN), improving FJPalgorithm would an important achievement in terms of these FJP-based meth-ods. Although FJP has many advantages such as r...
